More crochet

Image
I'm still on a crochet kick. After all, I keep ordering yarn. This was supposed to be my last batch, but I missed a crochet thread color and also, I'm running out of yarn for this top. And I had wiped out Joann's when I bought the three skeins (should've been 4 for this size unless I messed up somewhere). But, I did manage to finish not one, but two things I bought yarn for. First up, a little bag.   I have put beads on the ties to make sure the drawstring is secure since I took this picture. And then the afghan I showed you last week. Probably needs a bit of blocking. The border was a pain. I frogged it several times because even with the corrections I still think they were slightly off. But I managed to have a complete skein of yarn left over. I did start a few other things but I've come across discrepancies in the pattern. One may be my fault due to being new to tunisian crochet (does the first loop on hook count as the first stitch?...

Frog infestation

Image
I think I've had to frog more of this piece than I have all year. I keep messing up either with counting or with a color blend. I thought I had the blend right, but I didn't and had to frog that. I realized I miscounted the right side but that was an easy fix. Just add another column to the far right. I'm surprised I managed to get this far with it. More bad news, my Daylight bulb burnt out earlier in the week as well and I didn't have an extra. The good news is GE makes an equivalent bulb for less than half the price. And it's a bit brighter. I have two more days of school, both finals, and I will be finished. A Masters degree in one year. Now I just need a job.

some updates

Image
I know I usually do my updates Sunday but I wanted a little spacing between these types of updates and my weekly posting of DWTS opinions. Well, I managed to only get 3 rows done on 'insanity' this week. I wasn't expecting much and it's not enough to take a picture of. It took me almost two hours to do the first row, granted I was distracted slightly by TV. Upon nearly completing the next row, I realized I had gone down several stitches as 2x1 and had to redo them. Not easy with the stitch size and amount of thread already on the back. I had time during the week to work on it more given I was home sick from work, but I wasn't able to give it the amount of concentration it would need. I tried to but managed to only find I had messed up on the last stitch, another 2x1 but the other way then some conflict with the blends that I didn't want to deal with. Oh well. This piece is going to take me a long time even if I didn't screw up. I'm very tempted to scra...

First trials with a serger

Well, I finally decided to sew the seams on my dress with my new serger. Yay me! But boy is it a bit of a pain. Hard to thread (may have to take the advice of the manual to clip and tie the new threads together and just run them through that way). Finally got it re-threaded to a 3-thread over-lock. Good thing I tested on scrap fabric (the piece I screwed up on earlier). Threads kept tangling, breaking, not there at all. Ended up being the thread was winding around the base. So I fixed that and then it was sewing fine, but the tension's all wonky. I got frustrated after a while and gave up for the day. Need to re-watch the DVD that came with it...
