DWTS Season 28: Week 6

That opening skit confused me. And we're already halfway through the season? Sheesh. Ally. That song made the Quickstep seem even more frenetic than usual. They seemed off. A bit high. Kate. Really long fleckerl segment, not too long. A little too upright and some accents made it a bit jerky. Not worth 9s. Kel. It was fun to watch. Don't get the polka dots on the costumes. Still don't think it was worth 9s. Karamo. Felt dance by numbers in between the lifts. Too high. Hannah. No hips and she seemed to be on her tiptoes the entire time. The bounce felt staccato. Too high. Sailor. Not bad, but I felt Val pulled her along at times. Kicks and flicks were a little flexed. Not worth 9s. Sean. Very jerky. Too high. James. There were hips! Lost them on occasion but more than I've seen this season in this dance from anyone. I agree with the scores. Lauren. And I was tearing up. I agree with the scores. And bottom two are Sailor and Ally. N...

DWTS Season 27: Week 6

Halloween night. Milo. Appropriately creepy. I agree with the scores. John. Music did not fit the dance. I could see the steps but had issues feeling the paso. Felt too regal in posture. Little high but i'll agree with the scores. Demarcus. Uh, no hips. Best part was the lifts. Not sure what the judges were looking at. Too high.  Evanna. Not bad. I think she could've embraced the character more. Seemed to be cat lite. My mind wandered back to my cha cha routine to that song. A little high. Bobby. Not really Argentine tango. And he seemed to not do much. Cute shoes on Sharna. I prefer the original version of the song. Too high. Mary Lou. Felt a bit one note. Everything was on one beat and little was syncopated. Too high. Ooh, hot shirtless guys dancing. Kinda needed that tonight. Alexis. Seemed a bit like a jive which she did before. Music seemed a bit off time near the end... too high. Joe. Lots of lifts, not much tango. She danced around him...

DWTS Season 25: Week 6

It's a night at the movies. I loved that opening. And the giant staircase is back (kind of). Ah, early Hollywood.  Nikki. It was ok. A few iffy sections. I liked the glitter snow at the end. Or was it supposed to be rain? Don't know if I would give it 9s. Drew. He was bent forward at the hips rather than his hips being forward. And he got off time at the beginning of the group section. High. Definitely not a 9. Nick. It looks steampunk rather than western. That was awful. Hoppy and stilted. Too high.  Victoria. It was a bit hard to see if she had the posture with all that padding. But I liked it. I'll give her the scores.  Terrell. Decent. Definitely fun. His kicks and flicks weren't bad but other steps looked a bit flat. The spy theme helped control his long limbs. I'll give him the scores.  Frankie. Fun. Got off a few times. I agree with the scores.  Vanessa. Her frame wasn't quite right. Her skirt unfortunately fell off early. I ...

DWTS Season 24: Week 6

Maks is back! And one of my original crushes, Nick Carter. Hehe.  Simone. Pretty good. I felt it was hopping rather than bounce. The combat boots didn't help with me wondering what she was doing with her foot placement. Why was she practicing in heels if she wasn't going to wear them? I agree with Nick.  Bonner.  Odd arrangement of the song at the beginning. Sound mix issues? But Bonner didn't move from his bent knees legs spread position. Rumba needs straight knees. Sharna danced around him completely. Too high.  Nancy. It got better towards the end but she didn't seem confident at the beginning. Especially when they had just shown Mel Bs version. Too high.  Nick. Better than I thought he'd do. Chasses were planted a bit wide. Technique is weak as usual. I'll give him the scores but too high. Normani. I thought there was just too many underarm spins. There are a lot of different spins in salsa but I really only saw the same 3. I would've...

DWTS Season 23: Week 6

Latin night. Let's see who can bring the sexy. Ryan. He could've used a lot more hips and he was too straight. I don't think it was that impressive. Too high. Terra. Didn't feel the anger too much. Hard to see her stomping on the floor. A little high. Amber. Her leg action was a bit off. Locksteps were odd. Could've used her hips more. Too careful. I'll give her the scores. James. I saw nothing rumba relayed from him. No hips, no basic steps. He ran or hopped between poses. What were the judges looking at? Too high. Marilu. Still felt careful and proper to me. Once again locksteps were odd. Not enough hips. Too high for me. Jana. That was interesting. The heavy downbeat in the song wasn't really Argentine tango. It was sexy. A bit high for me but I'll give her the scores. Maureen. Where were the hips? Where was the bounce? Ana Artem was taking more steps than her in parallel step patterns. Too high. Calvin. Another ...

DWTS Season 22: Week 6

Cute opening Kim. Entertaining but the flicks were out rather than down (on purpose?)  She was overshadowed by everyone else around her. Too high for me. Von. He didn't own the dance. He didn't feel like he went all out. Too high for me. Jodie. It was mostly lifts and not much dancing. Bit the emotion was there. 8s maybe, not a 9. Paige. Cute. Very groovy baby. I agree with the scores. Nyle. I liked it. Better than the previous Quickstep to that song... *cough*  a few timing issues and he could've had a better frame. He wasn't standing up straight. I'll give him the scores. Ginger. Hehe. Sharp and precise. Didn't get swallowed by the pros. I'll give her the scores. Maybe a little low. Doug. Clearly could tell the difference between him and the pros. Too high. Wanya. What can I say? He's good. I agree with the scores. Antonio. His footwork was sloppy, especially at the end. Too high for me. And we say goodbye t...

DWTS Season 21: week 6

I love that opening. I also love Leah's dress. Hayes. Pretty good. There were places he looked uncomfortable. I did have a bit of trouble feeling John Travolta, Hayes is a little too young still. I'll give him the scores. Andy. That was fun. I strangely haven't seen Singing in the Rain. I really should. I don't know if it was worth 10s but I'll give him the scores. Alexa. For one thing, pythons don't bite. They're constrictors. As for the dance, that looked more samba than cha cha. I agree with the scores. Bindi. That was mostly mambo once the beat kicked in. And the 'rumba' portion was mostly spinning and tricks. I could see Derek shaking during the lift. She wasn't arched enough to make that easy on him. I'll give her the scores for re-creation purposes, not for the rumba. Paula. Ugh. The best part of that was the boys in shorts. Too high. Carlos. Yummy routine. Not too much rumba, but I did see a basic at the end. A bit too hig...

Dwts season 20: week 6

Patti. Good for her to keep going with one shoe but there wasn't much Quickstep. Too high. Nastia. A little too much hopping for me but it was danced well. I'm surprised no one commented on the break in hold but they may have taken off for it. I'll give them the scores. Willow. I didn't care for it. I think her knees were bent too much. A little high for me. Robert. That was cute but technique sucked. Too high. Noah. Unfortunately he didn't really move. Too high. Rumer. She got a bit out of sync with the girls. But otherwise it was good but there could have been more. I'll give them the scores. Chris. It felt rough. There isn't a rise and fall in viennese Waltz bit every downbeat he dropped like a rock. Too high. Riker. Oh look hips! A bit out of control though. I'll give them the scores. Now for the team dances. Team yolo. It was cute. Maybe a little high. Team trouble. I felt like this was better executed even t...

DWTS season 19: week 6

Jonathan. The lifts were more controlled. But the dance didn't really do anything for me. Maybe I'll agree with the scores. Janel. A bit of a different samba. Voltes could've used more hips. A few places were a bit too loose. But this was one of the better sambas I've seen this season. I'll agree with the scores. Tommy. Can I have her dress? The song is a hustle but it wasn't that much of a distraction from the foxtrot. He forgot some of it and was keying off Peta too much. A little too high for me. Antonio. Why were his knees so bent? I hear samba with this song rather than salsa and at one point it looked like he had the samba bounce. A little too high for me. Sadie. It was pretty, but she had no hip movement. And the little I saw looked awkward. I agree with Julianne and Bruno on the scores. Lea. I liked it but felt she was leaning forward with her upper body. The basics looked a little odd to me but that may have been partly her posture....

Dwts season 18: week 6

Nene. There was shaking. But no hips in the basics. Her grunge didn't move. By oozing up her knees like that she didn't rotate her hips to get the hip motion. There was very little actual salsa. Over praised and over scored. Candace. Maybe it was the song but it looked robotic. There was no hips during the actual cha cha parts. Cha cha is sharp but there's also some fluidity. Locksteps sucked. Over praised and over scored, again. James. He looked like he was leaning forward a bit in hold. Other times his feet looked sloppy. Part of it may be the sneakers rather than actual shoes. Don't know if it was 9s. Danica. The song is barely a cha cha. Maybe that's why Val didn't put that much in. Her knees could have been straighter during some transitions, mainly spins. That being said, what she did do was pretty good. I'll the the the 9s just because of where they pace so far Meryl. I liked it. I was having trouble seeing her feet because it was so ...

Dwts season 17: week 6

Love the opening.  Bill. The song is a swing, not a Tango. Nothing even resembling a Tango. That being said, it wasn't a bad Tango but it felt like he had one tempo for the steps instead of quick and slow steps. Little high for me. Elizabeth. There wasn't too much actual cha cha. Lots of spins and Val dancing. Her knees could have been straighter at times. It was well executed otherwise. I'll give it to them but not quite perfect for me. Leah. It was a slower Quickstep. It was underwhelming for me. She held her frame pretty nicely. Too high for me. Brant. Interesting dress. Sharp and intense with decent footwork. Little bobble at the end. I'll agree with the scores. Amber. She had the bounce to a better degree than most bit other parts needed more work. The middle section was not samba. Footwork was messy. Not 10 material. Jack. He tried, but hips were not forward enough and the flinging of his arm did not make it feel strong. Feet looked flubbe...

DWTS season 16: week 6

Love Stevie. Zendaya. Not bad. I think she could have kept her knees straighter when she turns. Her walks could have been sharper. Lots of fringe on her dress. I'll give it to her. Andy. Cute routine, but no visible samba. I think he was scored on entertainment value. Sean. He was disconnected the whole time. I think he was bouncing on the wrong beat. I could at least recognize the steps. Too high. Ali. The dress doesn't look good on her. Her back is arched too far, her butt is out causing her stomach to stick out. I guess I'll give her the scores but maybe a bit high. Ingo. He spent almost the entire dance looking at her. Parts were decent, others not so much. I don't think that song was too tango-ish. I'll give him the score. Kellie. Her chin needs to be pointed to the ceiling a lot more. I'll give them the scores. Victor. That was a step, stand rather than a rumba. No hips. I would've scored them lower. Jacoby. Interesting choreography. H...

DWTS season 15: week 6 performances.

Despite my being in the middle of sandy, I still have power. Let's hope it lasts through the rest of the show. Gilles. Hardest cha cha ever? Far from it. His feet were sloppy and his solo was nothing to talk about. Was not a hard routine. Too high. Sabrina. It was pretty good but the steps seemed like she was running too much. I didn't see much hip movement and the footwork in her solo was unclear. Too high. Kelly. A few places she seemed a little unclear on the steps. I could have done without the feathers on the bodice of the dress. Maybe a little high but I think this routine deserved it better them the others. Melissa. Pretty, simple, elegant. I'll agree with the scores. Shawn. Cute routine but there was no cha cha in her solo. I'll give them the scores. Kirstie. Not as much hip action as I thought she was going to do, at least in the actual steps. Bonus points for not having Maks' thigh giving out this time. Some of her arm positions looked awkward...

Dwts season 14 week 6 performance

I know a lot of you visiting tonight are following a re-tweet from either @dwtsgossip or @dwtsmaksimfans. I thank them for doing that. Please follow me on twitter @khascat to know when I update my blog. Gladys. No hip action, her feet were flicking up off the floor when they don't be. Footwork looked odd and her ones were bent too much. She looked like her arms were a bit lost at times. She enjoyed it but she isn't the best dancer. I liked her dress. Way over scored. Maria. Not fond of the hopping in the choreography. Foxtrot is usually smooth. still too straight in hold. I had trouble seeing her feet long enough to tell if she was doing the heel leads. I don't know if I would have given them 9's. Roshon. He had hip action, at least the figure eights, and Chelsea didn't dance around him while he took two steps. Kudos for him. It was however not smooth enough for a rumba. More movement through his body would fill up the time more. He also needed to settle in h...
