DWTS Season 19: Week 11 Night 2

And tonight is officially the last night of the season.   Randy. Foxtrot is still the best dance of the three he did. Never quite lived up to that potential with the Latin dances. I liked Artem and Lindsay dancing. Cute America tease from Val and Janel. Jonathon. Don't put him next to Twitch. Betsey. The pink button on the tutu was distracting and she still couldn't remember the routine. I think Sadie danced that cha cha better at the beginning of the season. Michael. He's still horrible. Antonio. Knees were too bent and I think he did heel leads. Alfonso didn't go quite as all out as the first time he danced the Carlton. Lea. She could do so much more. I refer you to the pro dance with Karina, Maks, and Tony to the same song. And another two good pro routines and teases. Tommy. And he completely forgot the majority of the routine. A beautiful pro Viennese Waltz. Cute cake. Happy birthday Bruno! Bethany. She k...

DWTS Season 19: Week 11 night 1

It's the finale! Where did the season go? Round 1 - judges pick Bethany. It was pretty good. A few places she messed up and got out of time with Derek. I'll give her the scores. Sadie. No bounce or hips. Same as last time. She also seemed to mess up a bit as well. Too high. Janel. I think the song fits salsa more then samba. It wasn't as clean as it could've been. Her injury was affecting her. Alfonso. Only dance so far that I felt hadn't dropped from its first performance. I agree with the scores. Round 2 - freestyle Bethany. I liked the tricks but in surprised they went so hip hop. I'll give them the scores but a little high for me. Sadie. Cute but i felt there were parts that didn't for her. Too high. Janel. That fit them. I agree with the scores. Alfonso. Very fun. The most 'ballroom' of the freestyles. I agree with the scores. Freestyles canceled each other out in terms of scoring, as usual. And t...

DWTS season 19: week 10

I'm on time again this week. Sadie. It wasn't bad but it didn't feel like a Quickstep to me. And the beginning seemed slow. Too high for me. Tommy. I don't know if he did anything during that routine. Too high. Bethany. I felt it was too up. It was staccato. Cute routine but not really samba. Too high. Janel. Another odd musical choice. I felt like Val dragged her around a few moves. I agree with the scores. Alfonso. It was probably due to his back but he looked restrained. He didn't do much. The song was more a cha cha. A little high. Unplugged round. Sadie. The guitar was interesting but detracted for me. A little high for me. Tommy. Still a lot of Peta dancing around him. Timing went off several times. Too high. Bethany. I was concentrating more on the movement of the frame than her dancing. I'll give them the scores. Janel. Best Argentine Tango of the night. The transitions out of the lifts could've been better. I...

DWTS Season 19: Week 9

Sorry for the late post, I was on set last night and didn't get home until almost 4am. Why is Tommy safe? Alfonso. Pretty good. Rise and fall was a bit abrupt. I like her dress. I agree with the scores. Just an odd note, why was that last tweet they showed about Randy couture? Tommy. It was ok. He messed up at the end. Viennese Waltz has the fewest syllabus steps. I'll agree with the scores. Lea. There was no bounce and get knees were too bent at the beginning. I liked the choreography. I'll don't think it was 9s. Bethany. Pretty. I agree with the scores. Sadie. Her feet never pointed. I felt it was sloppy in her lower body. A little high for me. Janel. Nice and crisp. There was a stumble at one point but they caught back up. I agree with the scores. Trio dance. Alfonso. I liked it. Having done flamenco earlier helped. I agree with the scores. Tommy. He didn't do much. And he walked through most of the samba steps. 7s were re...

DWTS Season 19: week 8

No opening number?   Lea. This routine was hit and miss for me. There were parts I liked and others fell a bit safe/flat. It could've been attacked more. I'll give them the scores but may be high depending on the other dances. Michael. Better than last week. But he was just walking through it. No glide or flow. Not worth the 7. Barely 6s. Janel. I liked it. I'm not used to Val being clean shaven. I'll give them the scores. Tommy. He messed up several times and there was no attack. Not worth 7s. Not 1 point higher than Michael. Sadie. It was well danced. I didn't care for it. I'll give them the scores. Alfonso. I saw more hips than with the rumba. Legs should be straight but his locksteps were better then most. I agree with the scores. Bethany. Interesting. I could've done without the part where Derek was banging on the pots. I agree with the scores. Dance off Alfonso versus Lea. Alfonso had more energy. Lea felt careful a...

DWTS season 19: week 7

Tommy. It was muddy and he seemed to forget some of it. As usual. I notice they didn't mention the break in hold during the dance. Too high. Lea. It felt careful. It could've used more power, controlled power. It felt like she was walking through it. Not worth 9s. Bethany. I liked it and her dress. I think she missed a step during a side by side but got caught up. There were moments she could've filled instead of just pausing. I don't know if it was 10s definitely 9s. Antonio. Not a lot of actual Viennese Waltz. He didn't do much. I agree with the scores. Michael. Just, no. 5s are generous. Janel. A tad slow for a Viennese Waltz. But it was interesting. A little low. Alfonso. She danced around him a lot. I didn't see too much hip action. Technique needs work. I'll give him the scores based on performance. Sadie. The character didn't work with the dance. She was too loose. I'll give them the scores. Team dances Its...

DWTS season 19: week 6

Jonathan. The lifts were more controlled. But the dance didn't really do anything for me. Maybe I'll agree with the scores. Janel. A bit of a different samba. Voltes could've used more hips. A few places were a bit too loose. But this was one of the better sambas I've seen this season. I'll agree with the scores. Tommy. Can I have her dress? The song is a hustle but it wasn't that much of a distraction from the foxtrot. He forgot some of it and was keying off Peta too much. A little too high for me. Antonio. Why were his knees so bent? I hear samba with this song rather than salsa and at one point it looked like he had the samba bounce. A little too high for me. Sadie. It was pretty, but she had no hip movement. And the little I saw looked awkward. I agree with Julianne and Bruno on the scores. Lea. I liked it but felt she was leaning forward with her upper body. The basics looked a little odd to me but that may have been partly her posture....

DWTS Season 19: Week 5

Antonio with Allison. He looked stiff, like he was tensing from trying. Which in turn held him back and base the movements small. I'll give him the scores. Bethany with mark. Compared to the choreography I see in SYTYCD it was soft hip hop.  Some parts looked a bit odd. It wasn't a bad routine but it didn't do anything for me. At one point I found myself looking at Henry behind the bar. Don't know if it was 8s but she danced better then Antonio. Jonathan with Peta. I felt he landed a bit flat footed. There was energy but it wasn't always properly placed. Therefore there were places he either went off or just barely made the connection to lift or flip Peta. I'll give him the scores. Alfonso with Cheryl. Not a style I'm all that familiar with but I think he pulled it off well. He should do well with Paso after this. I'll give him the scores. Janel with Artem. Definitely sexy. But not what I think of as burlesque. I'll give her the scor...

DWTS Season 19: Week 4

Welcome to Most Memorable Year night AKA Make You Cry night. That was one of the more exciting openings. And it was actually choreographed by a ballroom dancer. Janel. Too staccato for me. I liked the choreography but it could have been executed smoother and she could have used her hips more. A bit too high for me. Jonathon. No bounce, no hips. Bad samba. Didn't see it from Allison either. I'll agree with the scores. On an unrelated note, his eyebrows bug me for some reason. Too thick? Betsey. Low energy beginners east coast swing. She messed up a bit and was careful through the rest of the dance. Really slow song. I agree with the 7s. Bethany. That didn't look much like a rumba. I saw strange hand movements and swivels. Song was fast for a rumba. Too high considering the lack of rumba. Micheal. He got through it. But seemed very stiff. 6s were generous. Lea. Very pretty. One or two moments she could've filled up more but that's being pi...

DWTS season 19: Week 3

Randy. I felt as if he was trying to dance it well but there was a disconnect. His body position didn't have the tension to be strong. His footwork didn't have the drive to support it either. He seems to do better with the ballroom. 7s were generous. Alfonso. That song is a hustle first off. He didn't look as comfortable in hold. But they stayed close in the hips which is rare. And you support your shoulders with your back muscles. I'll agree with the scores. Betsey. There were times her feet could have been pointed more. It seemed to be lift she tricks and not much in between. Too high even getting rid of Kevin's score.   Lea. She looked like she forgot the choreography a bit. Knees were a little too bent at times and she seemed on her toes rather than being grounded through her hips. Jive was better. I'll give her the scores. Michael. Why is he safe? And where was the rise and fall? And the fluidity? And what were the judges seeing? Don't th...

DWTS Season 19: Week 2

Interesting opening. I was correct in picking the eliminated couple last week, although that wasn't hard to figure out. Randy. He didn't do much actual cha cha. But he was entertaining. Bit flat footed. Did better with the foxtrot. I'll give him the scores. Barely. Janel. I give them props for doing a foxtrot to that song. A tiny bit jerky at times, mainly when they weren't dancing actual foxtrot. I'll agree with the scores. I'm not completely convinced on the 9s. Lea. More memorable than last week. Her posture looked a bit hunched. But footwork was good. Don't know if it was 9s. Michael. Uh... Most uncoordinated hip rolls I've ever seen. He walked the dance. The judges are being really generous. Tavis. Where was the cha cha? And that song is a hustle. He looked at Sharna for the choreography almost the entire dance. Way too generous again. Alfonso. For samba, that was pretty good. Some transitions looked a bit rushed in his feet...

DWTS Season 19: Week 1

Cute opening. Nothing amazing.  Antonio. Heel leads in Latin is a no no. Especially Locksteps. he'll stay around for a few weeks. I guess I'll agree with the scores except Bruno. Lea. Not bad. It was a fairly basic routine but pretty. Her position in hold needs work. Hmm. I was just reminded Carrie ann and Artem dated for a while. I'll give her the scores. Janel. Not much actual Jive, but the song didn't lend itself to it. Some of her static positions looked a little odd. Over rotated and leaning back? Good performance. I'll agree with the scores. Lolo. Very stiff and awkward. Didn't match Keo in anything.  She's in a dangerous position if she doesn't have a big fan base. I'll agree with the scores. Antonio had a better performance. Betsey. I'll give her that she's flexible. But that's about all she had going for her. I'll agree with the scores. Tavis. A bit bouncy. Foxtrot is smoother. Entertaining but techni...

DWTS season 19 cast

Well, the cast for the upcoming season has finally been (officially) announced. Here are my pre-season opinions on the cast and their partners. Antonio Sabato Jr , 42,  General Hospital  (partnered with Cheryl Burke) The 'hot' guy of the season. He'll stick around for a bit just because the ladies want to see him with his shirt off. If he can actually dance, he'll make it far. Alfonso Ribeiro , 42,  Fresh Prince of Bel-Air  (partnered with Witney Carson) Carlton! He has rhythm, I think, and I'm pretty sure that famous dance of his will make an appearance at some point during the show. Hopefully he's a better dancer than his character was. Pretty sure this will be a fun partnership. Bethany Mota , 18, YouTube sensation (partnered with Derek Hough) I think I've seen her in the recent youtube commercials. No clue what her dancing ability is but she has a large fan base. Whether or not they'll vote it a different matter. Given she's partnered wi...
