DWTS Season 25: Week 5

Disney night. This time they're going in chronological order through the years.

Victoria. Cute. But a very odd song. Sparkely bodysuits. I'll give her the scores.

Vanessa. She felt behind and Maks had to drag her along. She also seemed to get stuck in her solo spins. I agree with the scores.

Lindsey. Very pretty. Would like her to brush her ankles more as her legs look too far apart at times. I agree with the scores.

Cute interlude of the mickey mouse club theme.

Nick. I thought he was a little forward in hold and he didn't quite match Peta. Feet messed up a few times. A little high.

Drew. Not bad. I liked her dress. It felt a bit slow for a Viennese waltz. He also had too much up and down so it felt more like a waltz. Tad high.

Kermit is funny.

Sasha. No hips. It looked like she could barely move at times and was always on her toes. I don't know what the judges saw. Too high.

Terrell. Interesting. But I felt his upper body was frozen in one expression. Too high for me.

Cute high school musical number.

Frankie. That actually had chemistry. A few places would've improved from having his toe pointed. I agree with the score.

Jordan. Really good. I agree with the scores.

Nikki. Interesting. Fun. But didn't really fit with the rest of the styles they do on the show. Too high for me.

And going home is Sasha.

New start

So I started Dance Me Out. I think I'm about halfway through the top left quarter of the design. Half stitches help with the speed.

I also seem to have gotten into baseball in the post season since I went to the Wild Card game. It makes Monday night's a little crazy. I end up starting to watch my recorded version of the game. Switch to DWTS at 8. Then go back to the recording during commercials for a batter. I then catch up with the live game after I post my blog. Hectic, hectic night.

Also am trying to expand on my outline for NaNoWriMo. Problem is my main characters are very sketchy and really the only things that are conclusive are one scene that started this whole plot, and the character of the usurper (not an MC).

DWTS Season 25: Week 4

Most memorable year, aka make sure you have tissues on standby.

Frankie. Not bad. His frame felt high. Too high.

Terrell. He paused too much. Churches waltz is supposed to flow. Too high.

Nikki. I didn't much dancing. Almost all tricks. Too high.

Nick. He did good but that isn't really a ballroom dance. Still too high.

Lindsey. Very pretty. First tears of the night for me. I agree with the scores.

Derek. I liked it. There were a few places he seemed to blank for a split second on the routine. A tad high but I'll give him the scores.

Jordan. Very good. I agree with the scores.

Sasha. I can tell she's hanging onto Gleb in hold due to her elbows. It was decent. Too high.

Vanessa. Unfortunately I didn't see any hip movements. Better than some of the others that got that score. So too low.

Drew. Fun but he needed more control over his limbs. I'll give him the scores for entertainment value and having his brother join.

Victoria. Decent. A few iffy footwork places. I'm so not used to Val clean shaven. I'll give her the scores.

And going home is Derek. I would've been happy with either of the bottom two.

Disney week is next!

Some progress

So I switched projects to Fantasy Triptych, but didn't get much stitching done as I was at the Yankee wild card game on Tuesday and was displaced from my apartment Thursday and Friday due to the contractor fixing the wall that got wet from the leak. Spent that time at my parents making working copies of all the kits I have.

I'm currently bouncing between projects trying to decide on my next one so I don't have much progress on anything else.

DWTS Season 25: Week 3

It's guilty pleasures night and they seem to have opened it up beyond a specific song.

Opening was a bit all over the place.

Drew. He still needs to watch his feet. Too high for me.

Derek. Not very good. I saw heel leads and the lack of hips made other things look weird. Not much cha cha. Too high.

Victoria. Not bad. But too far apart and head position was too upright. Not worth an 8.

Vanessa. Cute. Alan had an easy dance. I did see some differences between her and the troop but it wasn't too difficult choreography. I'll give her the scores for execution.

Nikki. She was too upright in hold and didn't have enough body contact. Especially since it was 50 shades of grey inspired.  Too high.

Frankie. Footwork wasn't bad but he only seemed to do half a bounce. Too staccato and no hips. Too high.

Lindsey. Cute and fun. I would've liked her legs together a bit more. I agree with the scores.

Sasha. She really didn't do anything. Funny at times but not much dancing. Too high.

Nick. Still don't see the connection between 80s workout videos and rom coms. Still not one of the best dancers especially when surrounded by pros. Too high.

Terrell. That wasn't very good. Either salsa or hip hop. I don't know what the judges saw. Too high.

Jordan. The music really threw me for thinking Charleston. Well executed but wouldn't really fit the dance. Too high?

No elimination this week. Probably because of 2 last week? Will we see a double later in the season?

Fall leaf shawl

This week's project was mainly this shawl that I had last worked on when I did overnights at News12.

Also worked on this scarf Monday/Tuesday, feather and fan stitch with a sparkly ball of yarn. Also started a long time ago. I had to rewind my yarn because my hand would ball was locked and wouldn't pull from the center. Oops.

Ended up with a leak in my ceiling/wall due to the top cap of the pipe that carries the hot water for the heat failing. Had two giant paint bubbles jutting out from the wall. Building will be fixing it in the coming week.

DWTS Season 25: Week 2 Latin night

Hot opening.

Nikki. No bounce, no hips. Very basic samba but not executed well. Too high.

Victoria. I didn't see much rumba. Tricks and pauses. Too high.

Derek. Paso by the numbers. It fell flat for me. Too high.

Sasha. Tiny bit of bounce. Almost no hips. Too high.

Nick. Odd song choice. He walked through it. A bit soft in execution. How does Peta have abs like that? Tad too high.

Jordan. Probably one of the best male sambas I've seen on the show especially for week 2. Some technique was a little off (probably due to the shoes he practiced in). I agree with the scores.

Drew. Bent knees and no hips. She danced around him. Too high.

Debbie. I didn't feel the passion. Felt dance by numbers on her part. Too high for me.

Vanessa. Not bad. It was clean and she used her hips for the majority of the dance. The pants were odd. I agree with the scores.

Terrell. No hips. Flat footed. Not very good. Too high.

Lindsey. Fun. Could've used a bit more hip movement during the basics. I agree with the scores.

Frankie. More funk than cha cha. I think he picked up his knees a bit too much in the cha cha portion. A little too high for me.

And leaving is Debbie. I can see why. She got a bit lost in the bigger personalities.

Overall everyone did better last night but Latin is exposes things more then ballroom.

DWTS Season 25: Week 2 Ballroom night

I like that everyone is doing ballroom one night and Latin another. Takes me back to earlier seasons.

Debbie. She had no frame. A bit of being pulled along. Too high.

Nikki. I didn't see any waltz. No rise and fall. Too much posing. Too high.

Lindsey. Cute. Should've been in hold more but that's Mark not her. A little low as I think that will be one of the better dances.

Barbara. A basic tango but very beginner. I think she forgot a few things. Left hand wasn't in the right position. Knees should've been bent. Too high.

Nick. Much better than his Latin. A bit one note and mellow in performance. I'll give him the scores but a tad high.

Drew. Not too sure why they did that high stepping move so much. His energy didn't match the energy of the song. Too high.

Vanessa. A little off balance at the end. A few odd leg placements. I'll agree with the scores. Tad high.

Frankie. That was way too fast for a tango. I think his legs were a bit too far apart at times. A tad too high for me.

Terrell. Raunchy foxtrot. Better than last week. But he walked through most of the dance. Too high for me.

Sasha. Frame was nice. But very little basic Viennese waltz given how short tonight's dances are. Too high.

Victoria. She was leaning to far forward with her upper body which caused her lower body to be too far from Val. Her dress is interesting. I'll give her the scores.

Derek. He was smooth. But technique still needs work. I agree with the scores.

Jordan. A few places a little too sharp but good.

And going home is Barbara. Not really surprised.

I'm surprised with 2 dances that the level rose like it did. I don't know who will be going home tomorrow.

Page 2 complete

Yay! Now to do something else for a bit.

DWTS Season 25: Week 1

Cute opening. Welcome to season 25.

Terrell. Good when he's not doing cha cha. I saw heel leads and technique was almost non existent. I'll give him the scores for the entertainment factor.

Debbie. Pretty. Her frame needs some work. I don't know how she'll handle Latin. I'll give her the scores

Sasha. She seemed to get behind or forget the steps at the beginning. Not much cha cha. A bit careful. A little high.

Drew. A bit fast for a foxtrot and his footwork was messy. He tried. Height difference is going to be a problem. Ill give him the scores. On par with the other dancers so far.

Barbara. Too many stops. Too careful. No hips. Too high?

Jordan. First potential finalist I've seen. Might be a bit too hyper. Hopefully he can pull off Latin. I agree with the scores.

Nick. Knees were bent the entire time. Wasn't very good. I'll give him the scores but a tad high.

Vanessa. Much better than her husband. Weight was a bit back on the new Yorkers but not bad. I agree with the scores.

Frankie. A bit stompy but had potential for ballroom. Not sure about Latin. I agree with the scores.

Nikki. A bit one note. Frame wasn't bad. I'm interested to know how she'll dance out of frame. I'll give her the scores.

Derek. Lifts were good. But the salsa was weak. Too high for me.

Victoria. Not bad. A bit hoppy but considering her timeline very good. I love the outfit. I'll give her the scores.

Lindsey. Best of the night but I'm not surprised. Sharp and clean. A few arm positions were a bit odd. I agree with the scores.

So the front runners so far are Jordan, Vanessa, and Lindsey. Probably going home first is Barbara.

A head!

The top of one anyway.

Finally something interesting has appeared.

And I have created an Instagram account for Clyde. https://www.instagram.com/clydewildhousepanther/

Sunday, September 10, 2017

half of page 2

I'm slightly more than halfway through page 2, but I still have 15 more rows before anything interesting appears. Although there was one row that had 7 stitches of the same color in a row (gasp!)

I had a very busy week that included 2 interviews. It was capped off by being out of town this weekend for a wedding and was unable to stitch for 2 days. It was in the foothills of the Catskills and I was calling it the boondocks as I saw lots of corn, cows, and deer. And my hotel had no cell reception. Thankfully it had WiFi so I wasn't completely cut off from the outside world.

And here's a pretty picture of Clyde who was tired from chasing the red dot.

DWTS Season 25: Cast

The cast has been revealed for season 25.

25? Ack.

Shark Tank entrepreneur Barbara Corcoran with Keo Motsepe
The last shark that came on the show was not good, but he ended up marrying his partner so I think that was the better prize. I don't think that will happen this season. Hopefully she'll surprise me with her dancing, but I'm not holding my breath.

’80s icon Debbie Gibson with Alan Bersten
Congrats to Alan for being made a pro. I know of Debbie, but she was before my time for me to really know anything about her.

NBA player Derek Fisher with Sharna Burgess
No clue who he is, but I assume he's tall and will have trouble with the frame due to height differences. Thankfully Sharna is one of the taller pros (although she's probably still shorter than me)

Property Brothers star Drew Scott with Emma Slater
Drew should be likable even if he can't dance. But at 6'6", he's another tall guy who may have trouble with the height difference in frame.

Actor Frankie Muniz with Witney Carson
While I never watched the show that made him famous, I believe he still has a fan base and will hopefully have a pleasant personality.

Singer/actor Jordan Fisher with Lindsay Arnold
Who?

YouTube star Lindsey Stirling with Mark Ballas
I love her music. She actually danced with Derek in one of her videos so she should be able to keep up with Mark. I believe she'll make the finals.

Singer Nick Lachey with Peta Murgatroyd
Former boy bander, should hopefully have some moves.

WWE wrestler Nikki Bella with Artem Chigvintsev
I literally only know her because she was on a Who's Line is it Anyway? episode. Her and her sister were good sports so she should be likeable.

Pretty Little Liars star Sasha Pieterse with Gleb Savchenko
No clue but the last actress from this show did pretty well.

NFL player Terrell Owens with Cheryl Burke
No clue. But football players tend to do well in the rankings even if they're not the greatest dancers.

TV personality Vanessa Lachey with Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Hopefully can dance. Interesting that her and her husband are competing with pros who are also married.

Paralympic swimmer Victoria Arlen with Val Chmerkovskiy
I have no idea who she is, or what her disability is, but the show has proven in the past that you can go far and be really good even with everything not in perfect order.

I don't see Sasha. I guess he's in charge of planning his wedding?

Still background

Still nothing very interesting happening yet. Pretty, but not very interesting.

So I leave you with Clyde. I'm thinking of making an instagram account for him or a facebook page. Clyde 'crazy kitty' with the tagline "Cats are supposed to sleep at least 14 hours a day. He didn't get the memo."

More (alternative) reality

Not quite as much done as last week, but I did take a bit of time to make a scarf. Almost 30 rows on page 2.

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Back to (Alternative) Reality

So to pick my project, I pulled out my drawer of WIPs, closed my eyes, waved my hand and then dropped it. Whatever project it landed on, I would work on. Turns out it's Alternative Reality. Got 16 rows done this week (only upside to still being out of work).

Also had this little guy land on my project yesterday. I had it on my hand, went to get my phone and just as I was about to take the photo it flew off. Finally landed on my couch where I snapped the photo. Got it back on my hand and somehow managed to open my window and screen and get it to fly away. Not sure how it got in in the first place.

And Clyde likes to jump in open cabinets. Silly cat.

Quick Finish

And my wintery stitch is finished. Lots of random ivory french knots.

And here's Clyde looking cute. Actually he's looking at my dad.

Very energetic, is usually tearing around the house and not getting enough traction on the turns.

Random number generator didn't like me

I decided to go back to a random number generator to pick my next cross-stitch project (with the help of my WIP/UFO list.) So I put my latch hook away...

And it picked out White Tigers.

Which I only worked on for two days due to the monochrome and the hard to read chart.

So I rolled again and Beauty of the Deep. Didn't feel like doing stamped and searching for my hoop. So I rolled again and got Peacock Majesty. Which I knew I had to start off by frogging (which is why it's been put away for over a decade)
So I rolled again and it gave me Dance me Out. Which turns out I had never started, which is fine, except I didn't have a working copy of the chart and I don't have a copier/printer. (I use my parents).
So I rolled again and it gave me Winter Friends (actually called Snowman & Reindeer). Which was my at work project at News 12 (I had downtime between broadcasts)

And remember the scared little black cat from last week? I think he's settled into being an only cat.

Sunday, July 30, 2017

Afghan complete

I finished the afghan, just in time for the weather to be in the 60s and 70s here. Hehe.

I didn't know what to work on next so I rolled a (digital) 3 sided die, it landed on other, so latch hook it is.

I also bought a new pattern because it was clearance.

And if you've gotten this far, congratulations, you get to meet Clyde, my parents new kitty.

He's adjusting, still skittish if you walk near him (does better when you're low to the ground), but loves to be petted. Skinny little black cat with pale orange eyes who can really jump.

Sunday, July 23, 2017

Getting closer

I just have a few more rows to do before I get to the border. So close.

I'm already thinking of my next project, not sure if it will be crochet or cross-stitch. Or maybe I'll do a latch hook for a change. I know there's another HAED challenge starting in August, so may go back to Alternative Reality.

Although I'm currently in the middle of a resume overhaul as my current one is not doing me any favors. Also working on my LinkedIn profile. Hunting for a job is hard.

Sunday, July 16, 2017

Halfway

I've finished with the middle panel and have reached the halfway mark on the afghan.

I also picked up work for 1 day a week and decided to treat myself to two Character Creation charts from Ebay.

Sunday, July 9, 2017

New things

So I've started working on the Aran Hearts Afghan for the wedding present in September. Probably best I started this early because I keep dropping stitches. Got through the entire popcorn section and half of the 2nd arrows when I realized I had dropped 2 after the first arrow section.

Say hello to my new floss organization system. I had outgrown my old one of snack bags on rings (I'll still keep those for projects rather than my master set) and got the cabinets this weekend. Ran out of labels so I had to stop on that part of the project. Boyfriend is currently sorting the floss I had in plastic bags. The cabinets are a bit wobbly at the moment, but he'll probably make me a frame we can anchor them to.

On another note, I've started contributing articles to footballinhighheels.com.

Lazy daisies aren't lazy

It's complete. There were a lot of lazy daisies.

Now to pick something that isn't green.

Monday, June 26, 2017

Onto the backstitching

I've finished all the cross stitching.

A close up of the faces before backstitching.

I've gotten most of the border done, but I realized when I went to get a new length, I used the wrong color for the castle. So now I get to frog all of that.

Sunday, June 18, 2017

Close

I'm getting close to finishing. The border and the faces shouldn't take too long. But then the backstitching begins. And the beads...

Sunday, June 11, 2017

*sigh*

Page 3 reminded me why I do parking with confetti heavy pieces. Damn you ninja stitches!

Also, I was a bad girl and bought more stash. Herrschners had 33% clearance and HAED had 50% off charts...
I realize the sweater is a knit pattern, but I am going to teach myself to knit. Eventually... And the dragons are no background so I can use pretty dyed fabric and they should take less time. Now to decide if I want them on the same fabric or coordinate per dragon.
