DWTS Season 24: Week 6

Maks is back! And one of my original crushes, Nick Carter. Hehe.

Simone. Pretty good. I felt it was hopping rather than bounce. The combat boots didn't help with me wondering what she was doing with her foot placement. Why was she practicing in heels if she wasn't going to wear them? I agree with Nick.

Bonner.  Odd arrangement of the song at the beginning. Sound mix issues? But Bonner didn't move from his bent knees legs spread position. Rumba needs straight knees. Sharna danced around him completely. Too high.

Nancy. It got better towards the end but she didn't seem confident at the beginning. Especially when they had just shown Mel Bs version. Too high.

Nick. Better than I thought he'd do. Chasses were planted a bit wide. Technique is weak as usual. I'll give him the scores but too high.

Normani. I thought there was just too many underarm spins. There are a lot of different spins in salsa but I really only saw the same 3. I would've given 9s.

David. He still leans forward a bit in hold. I was afraid he would drop her when he didn't get the full overhead press. Weird song choice and didn't feel like an Argentine tango for me. Too high.

Rashad. Too upbeat for a tango, more of a hustle. I didn't see any stalking movements. Very one speed. A bit high.

Heather.  Could've used a little more hips but I saw more then I usual do in the rumba. I agree with the scores.

Team dances

Boy band. There were some synchronization issues. Bit odd but fun. Too high.

Girl group. So hot they blew out the lights. Haha. And now the house lights are on. Nancy was the weakest. Too much standing around for the caliber of dancers. I'll give them the scores.

And the dancer leaving us is Heather. Damn it! She shouldn't be leaving yet.

Still Insane

So I'm slightly more than halfway through the page. In another 10 rows I'll have some blue.

I was getting annoyed with the extra fabric so I decided to roll it from the bottom. Of course that required me to unfold the entire piece of fabric. I forgot how big this was. I think I ordered 55x55?

I fell prey to the HAED sale...

The last two are Maxine Gadd who's work is retiring.

And a cute photo of Onyx from today. She once fell through those bars and has since learned to brace herself with her back feet. She also spent the next month after falling, hugging the back wall whenever she came into or out of my room.

DWTS Season 24: Week 5

That was an elaborate opening.

Rashad. Pretty good. A few strange spots. I agree with the scores except for the 9.

Nick. That was interesting. Silly. A little high.

Erika. She was looking down at the beginning. It helped when she had Gleb to focus on. Basic in hold looked a bit odd for me. I would've given 7s.

Heather. That was fun. Very Anna. I agree with the scores.

Bonner. Cute. Missed a few heel leads. Was a bit blank in his face in hold. I'll give him the scores but a tad high.

Normani. That was good. I agree with the scores.

David. That wasn't good. It looked disjointed and unless he was doing a kick, his feet didn't leave the ground. Too high.

Nancy. One of her best dances. It just happens to not be a ballroom style. I'll give her the scores.

Simone. Nice. You can really see how strong she is without the help of the spring floor. I agree with the scores.

And going home is Erika.

Finish, and it's back.

I finished the circle afghan. Only took 13.5 hours. Go me.

And look what I pulled out. Insanity is back.

And just for fun, a bonus picture of Onyx.

DWTS Season 24: Week 4

Most memorable year night. Aka have your tissues ready night.

Normani. There weren't many rumba steps. Lots of spins. But no hips either. Too high for me.

Nick. He didn't move much. His hips were static too. Too high.

Nancy. It was cute. But a lot of spins. Still too high for me.

Mr. T. Better but still far from good. Way too high.

Heather. Clean and sharp. Tiny bit repetitive with the choreography. I agree with the scores.

David. He was leaning forward in good and was hopping. Viennese waltz is smooth. Too high.

Rashad. It was good. But he could've pointed his toes to make those lines better. I'll give him the scores.

Erika. Felt very tiny. She also went ahead of the choreography a few times and clearly didn't match the other dancers. No hips. Too high.

Simone. I felt she was being pulled through the dance by Sasha. I'll give her the scores.

Bonner. Not bad. Was lacking a bit of the gentle rise and fall. I'll give him the scores.

And the person we no longer have to watch is Mr. T.

The circle grows

I basically started over on Saturday because I realized I switched the blues around. Oh well.

My progress on my Monday piece.

And say hello to my 'bag of floss'. Joann's had a sale on DMC floss. 431 skeins. I picked another 61 up at Michael's later on. So 492 skeins in total and I'm still shy on a few. But those are ones I have a lot of and will probably buy a cone of eventually.

I kitted up 20 patterns. Almost all HAED. Tocatta, Dragon Riders, Gift of the Unicorn King, Celestial Dragon (non-head), Secret Door, After the Secret Door, Train of Dreams, Space Traveler, Waterfall Dragons, SSMC Treasure Hunt, SSMC Secret Garden, SSMC A Stitch in Time, Water Dragon, Blue Dragon, Chase, Dragon Dancer, 4 Heavenly Beasts, Dead of Winter, Realm of Enchantment, and Tempest.

Now to find a bolt of 25 ct or 28 ct evenweave and a new way to store my set. I know the bags on the double binder rings is not going to work for my longer.

DWTS Season 24: Week 3

That was a very busy but well done opening.

Nick. Hold was better, but I still get the feeling he's leaning forward too much. I agree with the scores.

Mr. T. He walked through it. Too high.

Bonner. I didn't like it. Felt too small for the music. I'll give him the scores. But a bit high probably.

Heather. Very good. They had body contact and it wasn't all one speed. I agree with the scores.

Charo. That is a really puffy dress. I could barely see her feet. She looked like she actually did what she was suppose to rather than what she wanted to. Too high for me.

Simone. Pretty good. But her posture was off to me. I think she had her back arched and her head didn't seem to be in the wrong position. Not worth a 9.

Nancy. Not enough hips during the actual samba steps. Didn't see a good bounce either. Seemed soft. Too high. 7s at best for me.

David. Okay... Too high.

Erika. Very careful. Technique was not very good. Too high for me.

Rashad. I saw hints of hips, but not where they were supposed to be. He felt heavy on his feet. I also didn't see a bounce. A little too high.

Normani. A bit hectic for a foxtrot. That song is better suited to jazz or broadway. It was good though. I agree with the scores.

And going home is Charo. Thankfully. I think Keo is happy.

New projects

So this is what I've deemed my "Monday project" as it's very easy to pick up during commercial breaks for DWTS.

I tried starting the Silver Medallion Throw. The first 9 rounds ended up being an inch smaller than the gauge, but I just went with it. Unfortunately, that's causing a waving issue with the next few rounds. I may have to start over and try and make it bigger. Possibly chain looser? I had the same issue with my turkey afghan.

Therefore, I worked on this today and this same 9 rounds took far less time than the other.

If you look at the top of the blog, I've made a new page listing all my WIPs. I will eventually put pictures with the list, but any suggestions on what cross-stitch I pick up next would be helpful.

DWTS Season 24: Week 2

Nancy. Not bad. It felt soft. Too many swivels. I'll give her the scores.

Erika. Better than last week. Some steps looked a bit timid when she was didn't have to go too far. I'll give her the scores.

Charo. She got lost in her own choreography and didn't quite remember when she was supposed to stop stomping. She's still annoying. Too high.

Nick. Got lost a tiny bit. He was leaning to far forward in hold. A bit flappy in arm movement and foot placement. Can I have her dress? I'll give him the scores but 7s are a little high.

Heather. Poor Maks. But as for the dance, yay! The kicks and flicks were're a little off, but I could blame part of that on the shoes.  I disagree with Len.

Bonner. I liked it, but it was small. His footwork looked a bit suspect, not closing his feet probably. I don't know if I'd give it 8s.

Simone. Sharp and her new yorker had the correct position. Upper body was a bit one note, possibly from not enough hips. I'll give her the scores.

Chris. Um... Better than last week? I'm going to stop there. I'll give him the scores but too high for me.

Normani. I saw hips. Could've done more but I saw them move in the locksteps. A few too many swivels. I agree with the scores.

Rashad. That was good. Technique with the footwork could be improved. I agree with the scores.

Mr. T. He really didn't move much... Too high.

David. That was interesting... the cha cha was not good. But he could at least laugh about it. Too high.

And the first one out is Chris. I would've chosen Charo.

Challenge #4 completed

It's done. Page 1 of Alternative Reality.

Now to pick up something else. I'm probably going back to crochet for a bit. Preferably something I've already started.

DWTS Season 24: Week 1

Cute opening.

400 episodes? Sheesh.

Normani. Cute dance. Not enough body contact in hold, her butt was too far out. Can I have her dress? She has potential to last but I'm not surprised. I'll agree with the scores.

Nancy. Very pretty. Decent hold. A bit hoppy. I want her dress too. I'll give her the scores.

Chris. I know his character from that movie was not a good dancer but that was pretty bad in the cha cha... I agree with the scores but may be high for the night.

Bonner. He has potential but nerves definitely got to him. Could've been sharper. Better then the previous bull rider (sorry Ty). I agree with the scores.

Charo. Okay...off time in the beginning. She annoying me already. Too high.

Nick. Better then I thought he'd be. But I saw heel leads and his feet need to be cleaned up. I agree with the scores.

Heather. I love Maks. Yay! to the dance. Too low.

David. A bit slow for a Quickstep. Not bad but he may have trouble with Latin. It was cute. A little high.

Erika. I barely saw salsa and no hips during the basics. A bit high.

Rashad. Pretty good but not much cha cha. It was there but repetitive. Could've used more hips. Too high.

Mr. T. He tried but it wasn't very good. I agree with the scores.

Simone. She had latin shoes on. It was good but I'm not surprised. I agree with the scores.

So front runners so far are Heather, Simone, Normani, Rashad, and Nick.

91 + stash

91/98 rows on the page.

And I caved and bought stash. There were sales and I saw one afghan was on clearance with only 3 left. Which caused me to buy from 2 different sites (Mary Maxim had 17% off, Herrschners had .17 shipping)

Why am I drawn to afghan's so much?

I have a square

I officially have 80 x 80 stitches done. And you can see the top of the castle-like structure in the background.

And of course I had to include a photo of Onyx. She's kind of mad at me because I cut her claws. And I won't let her out. It's cold and there's snow on the porch. Plus she wouldn't stay outside long anyway even if I did open the door. She just thinks she wants to go out.

Sunday, March 5, 2017

70 rows

10 more rows and I'll have a square.

I didn't get as much stitching in this weekend as I would've liked but I didn't do too bad.

DWTS Season 24: cast

Whoo hoo! DWTS is coming back on. We're really in season 24? How long have I been watching this show? Sheesh. Onto my opinions

Bonner Bolton with Sharna Burgess. 2nd bull rider ever on the show. I'm probably one of the few people who he is. Like Ty Murray (the previous bull rider) he's most likely going to be likeable enough to stick around for a few weeks even if he can't dance.

Charo with Keo Motsepe. The old lady of the group. I've heard she has some latin experience, but I think she'll tend more toward comedic routine rather than high quality dancing.

Chris Kattan with Witney Carson. I vaugely recall him from SNL. I think he was on in the 90s. I have no clue what to expect from him,

David Ross with Lindsay Arnold. Baseball player. No clue how he'll do.

Erika Jayne with Gleb Savchenko. Real Housewife of Beverly Hills. Also no clue, but based on the other housewives that have been on the show. Abrasive personality and not so great dancing.

Heather Morris with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Britney on Glee. The girl can dance. Maks got a definite ringer.

Mr. T with Kym Herjavec. I know of Mr. T. I do not however recall actually seeing anything he's done. Let's hope he surprises me.

Nancy Kerrigan with Artem Chigvintsev. Figure skater. Most likely will do well with the ballroom dances, but may struggle with latin.

Nick Viall with Peta Murgatroyd. The bachelor. Okay... They don't do well.

Normani Kordei with Valentin Chmerkovskiy. Fifth Harmony member. I'm assuming she has dance experience just from being in a girl group.

Rashad Jennings with Emma Slater. Football players tend to do well. Or in the case of the year of 3 of them, stick around way too long.

Simone Biles with Sasha Farber. Probably the other ringer if she's anything like Laurie.

Plugging along

49 rows done. It's transitioning to a different color set so it's taking a bit more time. Cutting off the purples, adding the grays

And I thought I'd give you some photos of Onyx my mom sent me.

She likes box tops over actual boxes.

Halfway through challenge #4

Row 49/98 on the page.

I also saw Onyx this weekend. So I got some kitty time.

Still gets unsure whether to be mad at me or be happy that I'm there. She ends up sleeping on my pillow after I leave.

Progress

I'm now up to 35 rows of the first page. Some peach has crept in to the colors.

I also finished stitching the coasters. Still need to cut and glue the felt to the backs but at least the stitching is complete.

I also broke down and ordered the Under the Sea SAL and Fantasy SAL from Lakeside Needlecraft.

More purple

This is 25/98 rows completed on the first page.

I've gotten some pinks in. Nothing interesting is going to appear until page 3. Still on track for HAED challenge #4.

My yarn to finish my dragon coasters arrived. I'll probably work on those tomorrow.

Sunday, January 29, 2017

Why doesn't my camera like purples?

I started my HAED. 14 rows so far and the picture doesn't do it justice.

My boyfriend's hat kind of fell to the wayside. I did everything up until the last increase round. I'll get back to it soon.

I spent money on stash this week. I bought 25 ct fabric for future HAED's as I know I'll need it. I also bought a 500g cone of black. It's approximately 264 skeins. I think it'll last me a while. Also picked up this chart and charms pack.

And Herrschner's is sending me extra yarn to finish the coasters. They shipped it to my parent's place  though...

Sunday, January 22, 2017

So close to a finish

But the kit for the dragon coasters didn't provide enough thread for the colors needed to overcast the dragons.

The castle is put together, but I ran out of the blue. And I had 3 full lengths of the gray left for the dragons, but each will take at least an entire length. I emailed Herrschners to see if they could send me the missing yarn.

In the meantime I've started crocheting a hat for my boyfriend and kitted up a HAED for their Challenge #4, Alternative Reality.

Sunday, January 15, 2017

Why?

I continued to work on the dragon coaster set this week.

But now for the reason for the title of this post. I love HAED patterns, even though I've yet to actually complete one. But that's lack of time and wanting to do other things. I digress. I have over 800 patterns on my wishlist. I ended up down to 21 after much debating. First pass through I still had over 80... So this is what I ended up with:

No idea when I'll find time to stitch all of these...
